undies for our big boy

A month into moving in to our new apartment, we decided to start potty training Lincoln. Even better, he decided he wanted to use the toilet on his own. A few days prior, we all went to the store together and I decided to buy the kids their own fun underwear. I was a little hesitant to start especially since Chris works literally all day every day! But one Sunday after church Lincoln told me that he wanted to wear underwear... Ok then, we were on. And I knew the second I put on his undies there was no going back. No night time or nap time diapers, no pull-ups or trainers, just underwear from here on out.

I am amazed at how easy it was to potty train him! Which makes me happy to know that he really was ready to be a "big boy" no more diapers for my little Lincoln.

It was a bit frustrating at first, but I had already prepared myself for the worst. I didn't push him at all. I didn't time him every time he took a sip of something. I didn't sit him on the toilet forever waiting for something to happen. I just let him be. I wanted him to feel for himself and understand his what his body was telling him.

Let me just say, I did a lot of laundry! He played all day in his undies and he'd pee his pants often. I cleaned up after him and reminded him to run to the toilet when he had that feeling to go and there was lots of praising for when he did go in the toilet. Fortunately, I knew exactly when he pooped so we didn't have any of those messes to clean. He wet his bed only a couple of times. I really don't know how many accidents he had and I didn't care to keep track of it...that would just discourage me and add more work for me.

One day it just clicked for him! I remember it took exactly 7 days and he was completely potty trained! It didn't feel stressful for either of us and he has not had any accidents since then! He's great in public, he wakes up dry, and he goes all by himself! (He does usually inform us that he needs to go, and we just give him the ok and he runs off to the bathroom).

All in all, I am so proud of my Linc-a-dink and the big boy he's become!

our 4th of july in Virginia Beach

I love living so close to the beach!! It is literally a 10 minute walk from our place (less if I didn't have this very pregnant waddle going on). So where else would we spend Independence Day but at the beach!

Come along with us and enjoy the VB we've come to love!

we have a name!

baby #3 can now be referred to as Ivy! If you saw our previous name list here, then you know were all over the place with what we liked and agreed on. Chris did not like the name Ivy at all... but I won him over! (no shocker haha)
It's so cute hearing him refer to the baby now as Ivy. He has really fallen in love with our little Ivy!

half way there

I am 20 weeks pregnant with baby #3! I can't believe I'm already half way through with this pregnancy...I think the time is going to fly from this point on. We plan on flying out to Virginia Beach in the next week or so. then there's moving in, unpacking, and once we're kind of settled in I plan on potty 'teaching' the kids. So I'll be quit busy. We'll be back in VA for maybe 5 months... we really have no clue yet. So where will I have the baby? I have no clue! yes, the perks of military life.

anyway, back to my pregnancy update... I just started feeling movement not long ago and it's still very subtle. that's because the placement of the placenta is towards the front right up against my abdominal which explains why it's hard for me to feel much and also why I experienced a lot of cramping. besides the constant back aches and sciatica pain, there's really nothing out of the ordinary I'm experiencing. I was EXTREMELY tired and nauseous the first trimester but things have gotten better.

as far as names go...I'm totally set on a name! the only thing is Chris thinks it sounds like a stripper name!! What!? no way does it sound anything like a stripper! but I have a few months to convince him to like it...and he will like it!

"Feels Like Home"

I used to listen to this song all the time when Chris and I were dating. I felt every word to be true then, but it's never felt more meaningful than it has now.

I truly know now that home is where my husband is. Being apart from him for 5 months now has been hard. I can't wait to look into his eyes and get lost in his arms again. This time apart has made me appreciate that what we have together is the most important thing and it's made me realize how madly in love I am with this incredible man.

This life isn't an easy one to live, but I know we're working towards something bigger. He brings so much light into my life. I never thought I could love anyone so much and it's amazing how my love for him continues to grow.

(just substitute Noah and Allie for me and Chris! haha)

"Feels Like Home"

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

A window breaks, down a long, dark street
And a siren wails in the night
But I'm alright, 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see, through the dark there is light

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way the back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

the name game

Lincoln, Ella, &
names we kind of sort of like:
(in no particular order)
= Emma's choice
= Chris' choice
two dots = we both kind of like it // first color likes it more

Lily
Mila (mee-lah)
Ivy
Nora
Aurora .
Leila (lay-lah)
Naia (ny-uh)
Cali
Lila
Mia
there are names on that list I don't like but Chris does and names only I like... but we're just not in love with any of them... yet.
I know sometimes it has to grow on you. Like when Chris brought up the name Lincoln when I was first pregnant, I laughed and said no way! and when I mentioned the name Ella, he didn't like it at first either, and now those names fit our kids perfectly and we love them! so it's a matter of finding something that fits our family and imagining our cute little girl with that name.

it's a...

G I R L!
we were shocked to hear we were having another girl! both Chris and I really thought it was a boy this time. we had a name picked out and everything. I even started saving some of the clothes Linc grew out of and I completely gave away all of Ella's clothes!

I think I was about 19 weeks when I went in for the anatomy scan. Andi, my sister came along with me. I wanted to record the ultra sound or at least Skype with Chris during the procedure because he hasn't seen the baby move or even my growing belly. The technician didn't allow it though because of some law. (lame.) so I just had Chris on the phone so we'd hear the verdict together.

right as the tech was going to tell us what it was, I said I wanted to see for myself and guess. she turned the screen and as I have Chris on the phone, I said, "oh my gosh...oh my gosh... it's a girl!" Chris was silent. I told him to say something and he finally said something along the lines of, "well, that sucks." we really were both just in shock. and we were bummed we couldn't use our boy name we had grown to love.

It took me a few days to readjust my thoughts and reimagine my future, but I am more than happy to be having another girl. I think Chris has recovered too...

Now the name game... we have such a difficult time finding girl names we like. Even with Ella we couldn't find a name until about 3 days after she was born. We like short, sweet, and girly names so if you have any ideas please share!!

LA zoo

Ella led the way for us
this silly girl!
Lincoln saw this group of kids lining up on the wall and he ran up to join them
Ella was so scared on the marry-go-round..
...so she jumped onto my lap

long, hot day at the zoo calls for a yummy treat!
